UNBREAKABLE: Bent, But Not Broken
CONFIDENT LIFT | 10.6.25
“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree; they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon.” — Psalm 92:12
Some moments shake the very ground beneath you — moments that make time stand still and faith feel fragile.
This past weekend was one of those moments for me.
I experienced something I never thought I’d face — an unthinkable act of violence.
I was assaulted.
And it happened right in front of my son.
The sound. The fear. The look in his eyes.
It was every mother’s nightmare — a memory that will never fully fade.
And yet… even there, in the chaos, I felt something stronger than fear.
I felt God’s covering.
As I sat in the aftermath — bruised, trembling, replaying every moment — I was met with something powerful: community.
They came. They called. They prayed. They interceded.
They showed up — not just via phone, but in person.
People surrounded me when I could barely stand.
Women of faith held space for me when words failed.
Friends came and comforted me, prayed over my child, and became the roots that kept me grounded when my knees wanted to buckle.
And it was then that God whispered something into my spirit:
“You may bend, but you will not break.”
I AM ROOTED LIKE A PALM TREE
We’ve all seen what happens when fierce winds come against a palm tree — it doesn’t snap.
It bows.
It bends.
It sways so low you’d think it couldn’t possibly stand again… yet when the storm passes, there it is — upright, unbroken, and still standing tall.
But here’s what truly moved me: its survival isn’t just about being flexible.
It’s about what’s beneath the surface.
Palm trees grow their roots deep and wide, wrapping around the roots of others close by.
Hidden underground, they form a quiet network of strength — a connection that keeps them from being torn apart when the storm rages.
That truth wrecked me. Because isn’t that how God designed us to live? Not trying to weather life’s storms alone. Not pretending we’re fine when we’re falling apart. But rooted — in faith, in love, in community — strengthened by those who stand beside us when our own strength starts to waver.
And then, this verse echoed in my heart:
“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree…”
(Psalm 92:12)
We don’t thrive because we’re unbreakable by nature — we thrive because we’re rooted in Someone greater.
So let’s keep showing up for each other.
Let’s intertwine our roots — praying, holding, encouraging — until no storm can uproot what God has planted.
As I’ve walked through this weekend of pain, reflection, and healing, I’ve thought a lot about Jesus — the One who was betrayed, beaten, and nailed to a cross.
And still, He said:
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
— Luke 23:34
Those words… they’ve been echoing in my spirit. Because forgiveness is hard when you’ve been wounded deeply. But I’m learning that forgiveness doesn’t excuse the harm — it frees me from carrying it.
Forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting. It doesn’t erase accountability.
It means surrendering justice to the only One who can truly give it.
It means choosing peace when bitterness is easier to reach for.
So, like Jesus, I’m choosing to forgive — not because it’s painless, but because it’s powerful.
Because my son needs to see that faith still stands tall, even when life knocks us low.
3 KEYS TO REMAIN UNBREAKABLE
Stay Rooted in God’s Word When life tries to uproot you, dig deeper. Storms don’t destroy your faith — they expose its depth. Open your Bible, worship through your tears, and remember who holds you steady when the world feels unsteady.
Stay Surrounded by Community The enemy loves isolation. But healing happens in connection. Surround yourself with people who remind you who you are and whose you are. Like the palm tree, your strength grows when your roots intertwine with others.
Stand Firm in Forgiveness Forgiveness is not weakness — it’s warfare. It’s how you silence the enemy’s lies and reclaim your peace. It’s how you stay unbreakable in spirit, even when the world tries to shatter you.
