Living Moment by Moment

CONFIDENT LIFT | 9.29.25

Have you ever found yourself carrying the entire week on your back before Monday even ends? I have. Last week, I was reminded of the power of living moment by moment. Instead of being consumed by the weight of “all that has to get done” or the anxiety of how everything will turn out, I made the choice to focus on the now.

A friend asked me how I was doing, and before answering, I paused. I took a deep breath and responded, “This moment is wonderful.” The instant those words left my mouth, my perspective shifted. The heaviness I had been carrying lifted, and I felt lighter.

And something amazing happened—anxiety began to roll off my back.

Yes… I have even wrestled with anxiety. These past few weeks have been heavy, and I knew I needed to take my own advice—so I scheduled a session with my counselor. It turned out to be exactly what I needed: a release and reset. As I shared my frustrations about feeling depleted and defeated, I was gently reminded of God’s truth. That truth has become my anchor, something I lean on moment by moment.

Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:34:
“Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

This verse isn’t an invitation to ignore planning or responsibility—it’s an invitation to breathe. To trust God in this moment. To deal with what’s in front of you without letting the full weight of the week steal your peace.

Here’s what I’ve learned: none of us are exempt from life’s experiences. We all face challenges—unexpected bills, tough conversations, grief, deadlines, uncertainty. The difference isn’t whether hardship comes (because it will). The difference is in how we handle it—moment by moment, encounter by encounter, grace by grace.

When we live this way, life stops being one giant, overwhelming wave and becomes something we can step into—one ripple at a time.

Three Simple Tips to Live in the Moment

Here are three science-backed, faith-aligned ways to ground yourself in the present (shared practicals so you can apply them right away):

  1. Practice the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique

    • Look around and name 5 things you see, 4 things you feel, 3 things you hear, 2 things you smell, and 1 thing you taste.

    • Why it works: This resets your brain from “what-if” spiraling into present awareness.

  2. Breathe with Intention

    • Try “box breathing”: inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4.

    • Why it works: Deep breathing lowers cortisol (stress hormone) and slows racing thoughts.

  3. Break Big Problems into Small Moments

    • Instead of asking, “How will I get through this week?” ask, “What is the next right step for this moment?”

    • Why it works: Psychology shows our brains handle small, concrete tasks better than abstract, overwhelming ones.

My Encouragement to You

Life will still be full of highs and lows. But when you allow yourself to live moment by moment, you permit yourself to breathe, to trust, and to experience God’s grace in real time.

Just like when my friend asked how I was doing, and I answered, “This moment is wonderful.” That phrase shifted everything for me. I believe it can for you, too.

So today, pause. Breathe. Whisper those same words. And trust that because God is with you, this moment really is wonderful.
