Soul Care in the City:

Lessons from NYC, Confidence, and Calling

I just got back from an unforgettable week in New York City—and whewww, the Big Apple didn’t just give me moments…it gave me ministry.

What started as a business and pleasure trip for my niece's 16th birthday turned into a soul-stirring experience filled with divine downloads, deep reflection, and Holy Spirit hugs in the most unexpected places. So today, I’m inviting you to slow down with me—grab your tea, breathe deep, and lean into these soul care truths I gathered on the go.

Lesson 1: You Are Valued. Period.

I love being in spaces where confidence meets culture and calling. I’ve been working with this particular client for about 18 months now, and each visit leaves me more inspired than the last. One of the most moving moments was hearing key leaders from L’Oréal speak life into me, affirming not just my gifts, but my presence. Their words reminded me of Psalm 139:14, “I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

This was a reminder never to shrink. Listen friend, life be life-ing at times, and yet, you must remember never to dim your light! You are already enough for the rooms you’re walking into.

And can we pause and praise God for unparalleled facilitation opportunities? There’s something sacred about standing in your lane with excellence, ease, and anointing. I’m grateful for every chance to lead, teach, and watch lives shift.

Lesson 2: Savor the Moment

This was my niece’s first flight—part of her sweet 16 gift—and I watched her eyes widen with wonder at every new thing. From Times Square lights to the Statue of Liberty sights, I saw her become before my eyes.

She said,

"Nanny, I feel like— I could do anything. I really feel like this will be my life. Traveling and experiencing new things."

And just like that, I heard heaven whisper:
“Everything can preach…if you let it.”

You see, her confidence began to unlock as she explored. She was exposed to something new, and it opened up her worldview, which is a beautiful thing. This could’ve easily been missed had I chosen not to be present and savor the moment. And this is true for you also.

Beloved… You must pause and be present. There’s a lesson in every lane, even on the subway.

Lesson 3: No Excuses

When we landed in Newark airport, we heard Black boy joy pouring from a piano in the middle of the airport—music so powerful it made strangers stop in awe. Then, at Penn Station, we passed a disabled man in a wheelchair, singing his heart out in Spanish to a rushing crowd. No mic. No stage. Just purpose on full display.

And I heard the Holy Spirit say:

"If they can give God their gifts in the middle of chaos, what’s your excuse?"

Whew!!! Gut punch conviction!

It’s time for no more hiding. No more holding back. Friend…what are you waiting for?

NYC reminded me that every moment is sacred. You are worthy of rest, celebration, and showing up boldly. So let’s keep the momentum going.
